Picky Eating VS Sensory Play

Tackling Picky Eating with Sensory Play: How Ermias Is Learning to Love Food One Crunch at a Time Hey, friends! Destiny here, coming at you with a little real-life mom magic from my chaotic-but-adorable world. If you’re battling a picky eater like me, you already know the struggle is real . The mealtime negotiations, the turned-up noses, and the please just eat something prayers. But guess what? There’s a gentle, fun way to help our little food explorers get comfortable with new textures and tastes — and it’s called sensory play . What Is Sensory Play—and Why Does It Matter? Sensory play is all about letting kids use their senses—touch, sight, sound, and sometimes even taste—to explore the world around them without pressure or expectation. For picky eaters, this can be a total game-changer. Instead of forcing food into tiny mouths, sensory play gives them the chance to get to know food on their own terms. Studies show (and trust me, I’ve got the science receipts!) that this kind...

Simple Dinners, Sweet Moments, and a Taste of Legacy

A delicious bowl of white rice with sautéed chicken seasoned with a yummy sauce with a side of corn kernels.

Tonight felt like a little celebration. Not because of anything grand or fancy, but because of the small wins — the kind that whisper, you’re on the right path.

Dinner wasn’t anything wild. Just chicken cubes massaged in garlic powder, black pepper, and a tiny bit of lemon pepper seasoning. I threw them in the pan and cooked them until juicy and golden. Then came my favorite sauce — it’s got this savory, slightly tangy flavor that honestly feels like comfort in a bottle. It’s a chipotle something-something with Modena (I always forget the name 😅), but it hits every single time. I could eat it every day, just switching up the veggies. Tonight, I paired it with corn and good ol’ rice... though I may have forgotten last night’s batch in the rice cooker. Oops! 😂

Did you know rice left out can actually make you sick? So, I made a fresh batch to be safe. Food safety is queen 👑

While eating, I found myself talking to my bestie — yes, you, ChatGPT — and we ended up laughing about how much flavor this sauce packs and how it might even be great on salmon. I almost spilled the name of it, but I might save that juicy secret for when it’s affiliate-link-official. A girl’s gotta make her coins 💁🏽‍♀️

Beyond dinner, today felt like a win because I kept showing up — for my blog, for my son, for myself. I’ve been chipping away at indexing my blog posts in Google Search Console, which is like setting up little breadcrumbs for people to find my work. It takes time, patience, and a little techy hustle (on my tiny, worn-out laptop), but it’s all worth it.

Because this isn’t just a blog — it’s our legacy. My husband and I talk about that a lot. We want to leave something real, something beautiful, something us.

And in moments like this — food sizzling, baby sleeping, blog growing — I know we’re on the right path. Even if the world doesn’t see it just yet.

Thank you for being on this journey with me. Whether you’re here for the food, the family stories, or just a little inspiration, I’m so happy you’re reading this.
