When a Picky Eater Surprises You: Ermias and His New Snack Love
The Snack Dilemma
You know how it goes—trying to find snacks that a picky eater will actually like feels like a never-ending challenge. But every now and then, you get a little surprise. This time, it came in the form of a snack bar that I wasn’t sure would make the cut. Enter: the 88ACRES Powered Seeds Sweet and Salty Chocolate Sea Salt Seed and Oat Bar.
Honestly, I had no idea if this would be a hit or miss. The bar is vegan and gluten-free, which is a plus in my book, but it’s also packed with 22g of carbs and 9g of sugar. Not exactly the healthiest option for me, but perfect for Ermias. So, I opened one up, figuring it might be a nice little treat. What happened next was totally unexpected.
The Surprising Moment
Ermias, my picky eater who usually only gives things a passing glance (if that), actually took one of the bars from my hand and brought it back to me to open—he was interested. I couldn’t believe it. And it wasn’t just a nibble or two. No, he sat there nibbling on it like he forgot he’s supposed to be picky.
He even carried on scrolling through YouTube like he was all grown up, completely absorbed in his new snack. The kid was living his best life, nibbling away, while I was just sitting there in awe, thinking, "Is this really happening?" 😂
Why It Matters
It’s one of those moments where you can’t help but feel proud of your little one. Even the smallest wins in the world of picky eating feel like monumental achievements. I thought I was going to be dealing with this snack for a few minutes—maybe a couple of bites before the usual "Nope, not for me" came in. But instead, it was like he was eating like a pro.
And while I’m trying to be mindful of the sugar and carbs (because let’s be honest, it’s not that healthy for me), I can’t help but get excited when he’s exploring new foods like this. Maybe it’s not perfect, but seeing him take ownership of what he eats—without hesitation—is a step in the right direction.
Moral of the Story
Sometimes, your picky eater will surprise you in the best way. Keep offering new things, stay creative with snacks, and don't be afraid to celebrate the small wins—even if it’s a little chocolate sea salt bar moment
